Four questions

  • How do religion and philosophy differ, given that they attempt to answer many of the same questions?
  • How do philosophy and science differ, given that they attempt to answer many of the same questions?
  • Is philosophy as ‘rational’ as it first appears? What, if anything, does it take for granted?
  • How optimistic do you think we should be about our ability eventually to solve philosophical problems?

  1. I am going to write about the first question concerning philosophy and religion and what are the differences between both of them.
First of all, philosophy, this term has been defined over and over again by many different philosophers over the last two (or even more)thousand years ,one definition says that its revolutionary and vitally important to the good life and unexamined life is not worth living for, another one says that it is the study of general and fundamental problems.
Secondly, what is religion? There is no possible way to write one generally acceptable definition for religion and that is because the different ways people look at the word RELIGION. However, I can mention one of the simplest definitions for religion which says that religion is a system of faith and worship.
From the way I see it, philosophical ideas can always be argued, why, simply because it is an idea that a man came up with basing this idea on his thinking and perhaps his imagination. Even in history some philosophical ideas has been refuted by science only because science is based on practical and evidence thinking. On the other hand, religion is untouchable in this matter because every believer believes that his or her religion came to them from their gods which in their thinking are superior to human so how can the humble man refute anything that has come to him from his creator (regardless from what religion does he believes in) and that is why I think religion is far much superior term to philosophy and can never be compared to it.
Despite the thing I have mentioned before, I do not think that philosophy is unimportant thing in life it is well know that to discover or to explain something in this world you have to think about it from each possible way and that simply philosophy even some religions has started by thinking in this magnificent universe and the greatest of his creator and that is also a form of philosophy.
